7th and 8th graders at St. Francis Xavier study United States History each year.
7th grade begins with the American Revolution and crafting of the United States Constitution. They study the early tensions between the North and South over the issue of slavery and then move into the Civil War, followed by the Reconstruction Era, and end the year at the turn of 19th Century to the 20th Century.
8th grade begins with the Age of Imperialism and studies the tensions that led to World War I. Then we move into the Roarin' 20's, and discuss how spending practices during that decade led to the Stock Market Crash of 1929 and the Great Depression following that crash. We then move into an extensive, cross-curricular unit on World War II and the Holocaust. And finally, end the year with a brief study of culture, foreign policy, and Cold War tensions during the 1950's, 60's, 70's, and 80's.
